I get this error message.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the camera.
Changing the driver.
Updating windows
Rolling back windows updates.
All are the same - I have looked for ages on google - any ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance

Is this a webcam integrated into a laptop? If not, can you try it on another PC? (The camera itself may be faulty).1

Check you've enabled access to the camera in Privacy Settings -> App Permissions (these also apply to non-app "normal" programs, never mind what the label says)

Thank you all. It is an integrated web cam and an external one does work.
@HereToday I tried all of those
@Neil_Jones I tried that and it didn't work either.
Fortunately I only bought this in April so will go back to Argos.

Several places to enable the camera. Windows 10 is a mess of old and new. How many options do you need to access one pageand how many pages do you need to change to enable one setting? My likes to restore Edge as the main browser, probably every minor update even though its set to Firefox. And the other day itblocked access to my NAS completely.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...1

Is it a laptop? If it is, boot into the BIOS and check the webcam is enabled. Here is an example BIOS showing webcam access. HTH
Sorry! Did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours!1 -
Some antivirus product disable the camera also. I had one in last week which was caused by this. Also look for a function key on the keyboard to enable/disable the webcam.1

Thank you all, system restore fixed it - a real pain but at least it works now.0
