BA holiday credit

I feel like a hooked fish being reeled in. YES, I did do the patriotic thing and accept BA's credit voucher instead of a cash refund for a cancelled holiday due to covid. Now despite all the doubts and pitfalls I am trying to book for 2021 but BA want an additional deposit and the voucher can only be redeemed against the outstanding balance. That means I will be out on a limb for double my original deposit. I've a good mind to walk away and risk the initial deposit and NEVER use BA again.
