Government's Home Improvement Grants

Hi Everyone
I just want to check the eligibility criteria for this grant. Its my wife's last day in work today. She is being made redundant. We applied for universal credit. Does anyone know if there is a certain amount of time that you have to be on universal credit in order to qualify? Or is it just a case of once your on UC your automatically eligible? Also what if she finds a job a in the next few weeks? Will we then not be eligible? I'm finding this extremely confusing and don't really know where we stand. Let's say i apply now and get the vouchers but then my wife goes back to work would we have to give the vouchers back? Thanks in advance!

  • What specific grant are you referring to?

It simply states you 'may' be eligible for the full cost if on UC. I highly doubt someone who goes on UC for 3 weeks then leaves for another job would be handed 'up to' 10k for home improvements but I suggest ringing them to go over your circumstances.

To be clear - you do not need to be on UC to be eligible for the Green Homes Grant. All homeowners are eligible subject to appropriate property, relevant improvements et. However it appears those on certain benefits may be eligible for a higher grant - but I can't find any details on this.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

That's correct, people in receipt of qualifying benefits can qualify for twice the amount - up up £10,000.  They also don't have to pay towards the cost of the work.
