O/S Daily Monday 30 November 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Rubes - hope you're keeping comfortable x
Dark and cold start to the day here.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, swede, brussels, carrots, broc, green beans, peas, yorkshres and gravy - some LO's so that will be tonight's dinner.
Yesterday we were quite chilled, although DH and myself did got to local Morries to pick up some of the alcohol for xmas - it was all on offer so thought we'd get it as I've waited other years and then the offer has been finished. Still quite a bit to do towards xmas, so need to get going with it.
Back to work this morning.
Keep safe and well x

Goodmorning and thanks for starting NMLC.It seems to be raining here, yesterday was a damp gloomy day.Didn't do anything exciting (!) yesterday, I went to Morries for a few things and DH went to Wil*insons for a light bulb - the variety of lightbulbs these days is astounding, gone are the days when you just had plain or pearl in different wattages. If I buy one I'm peering along the shelves and studying different bulbs, and I've seen others doing the same.I made a list of the last few presents needed for Christmas, there's not a lot as I don't buy the amount of stuff I used to, and shopping online has been so convenient.Hope you are feeling a bit better Gers, Ruby and Dumpling.Take care folks, and hope evryone has a good day.14

Morning All
Wet and windy this morning but milder than yesterday. It didn't really get light yesterday and was mighty cold.
Back to work after a chilled weekend, there will probably be lots of phone calls as reports went out on Friday.
Hope you're all well, hugs to the poorlies. Take care. XX13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I hope RUBY and GERS had a good night and are both feeling a bit better. It looks as though we had a bit of rain during the night and more drizzly mizzle is forecast. But the bonus is it feels milder. It's been a parky weekend.
RUBY you were right the covid test was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. DD has to have one every week at the centre and now thinks they are a doddle! They said they'd had a very good response to the mass testing invite up here but not sure how other areas in the borough had responded.as it's still early days.
I actually made a start on present wrapping yesterday. I have so many people to buy for it has to be done in stages! or I am losing the will to live. Yesterday I did all the gt nephews and nieces. Baby steps! I will resume tomorrow. Today I have the 2 youngest DGDs again (another teacher training day) but before they arrive I have the excitement of a Tesco delivery! Lots of Xmas bits and pieces before they start selling out! Space has been made in the small freezer.
I am awaiting 3 parcel deliveries this week. One for me, one for Sparkle and another gift for youngest DGD. A pink hoodie with a slogan on the front - "I Play Golf - What's Your Superpower!" She has been deprived of her new hobby through lockdown and can't wait to start swinging her clubs again. The hoodie should keep her warm in the cold winter months.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning all misty but not overly chilly here I am still at mums and it looks like i will be here till at least xmas as we are planning for it here i must admit i am finding it all bit overwhelming . DH and DS came over at the weekend to move a few chests of drawers and filing cabinets so mum can live downstairs, I am up this morning as i need to be around as she is in the shower the house is soo hot its on 20 degrees all the time i have turned the heat off in my room and have a window open all night to cool down . Today i need to call the benefit people as her needs have changed and i need to apply for a blue badge I also need to do the washing other than that just pootling round.
Ruby I hope you are doing well glad to hear the drains are out
Gers I hope your mouth is a little better
Dumpling Heres hoping the new antibiotics have done the trick
Nmic Any news on the job front?

Good morning everyone
I have been awake since 4am again so will definitely be snoozing in front of the tv later. I'm on the last day of my antibiotics today and I hope they have done their job. An old friend of mine and his daughter are both in our local hospital with Covid so I really hope they get through it and get better. My friend is rather frail with lots of other health conditions but I know he will have the best possible care from the nursing staff. It's made me think as I thought we were in one of the safest areas and was very cross that we have been put into Tier 2.
Much excitement today as I have done a click and collect order from Aldi so Steve will be picking it up between 10 and 11. I may have got a bit over excited and ordered too much meat and cheese type stuff but I know it will be eaten eventually. I must make sure the fridge is clean and ready for all the fresh stuff that's coming.
I have finally thought of a gift for Steve for Christmas so a bass guitar and amp are going to be arriving in the next few days. It will be fun to wrap and hopefully disguise what it is. He used to play the guitar many many years ago and mentioned picking it back up one day. I really hope he likes it.
Fajitas for diner tonight as we didn't have them yesterday as I had a real craving for proper fish and chips from the chippy. They were absolutely delicious and still piping hot so it was a real treat. We are having lasagne tomorrow from Aldi (hopefully) as our wedding anniversary dinner and I have ordered a white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake for dessert.
I had a lovely surprise yesterday, my brother came to deliver some flowers and cards to me as a thank you for all the toys and advent cards I made for my niece and nephew. It was a fantastic surprise even if he had to stay at the far end of the garden path and shout up to me. I can't wait for the restrictions to be over so I can give them all a huge cwtch. I hadn't seen him in a couple of years so it was a real treat.
Right, that's enough of my waffle, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
A bit warmer today, yesterday was a very gloomy, misty day - we are forecast rain as usual today. Garden is reverting to a marshy bog and yesterday I went out with food for the birds and just managed to avoid stepping on a small frog. Or toad, it was dark and anyway I'd struggle to know the difference unless it was green and sounded like Kermit.
It is getting light and tge birds are giving it their all, I have a very noisy garden this morning.
Yesterday my mse bit was making soup from a chicken carcase that OH had jointed up, cheaper than buying chicken pieces and bigger joints too. I didn't have much motivation in the kitchen though so we had sausages, bacon and eggs for dinner, OH also had beans but I don't like beans with eggs.
Today if it doesn't rain, I need to rake up yet more leaves, if it is too wet I'll carry on with various knitting projects. I'm making a wardrobe for my friend's daughter's baby doll - she's having a baby early next year and friend thought it would be nice for her own baby doll to have new clothes. Plus clothes for the actual baby. And more clothes for a younger friend's new baby. Then it will be back to the trauma teddies except another friend has had a lot of alpaca wool spun from her late mum's alpacas before they were re homed. I'm not quite sure she knows what she wants yet, she knows I'm not available until after Christmas though.
I am impressed by other people's Christmas preparations because so far I've done roughly nothing. I have asked my DS for suggestions and OH too but he just looked at me in a blank sort of way. TA is Sparkle having a present?
I have read up on the weekend posts and good to see that Ruby, Gers and Dumpling are recovering.
I shall now start my pottering about, I'm still in my jamas as OH is still in bed and there is no point in waking him, he likes his alarm to go off and go back to sleep which I find very strange.
Keep safe and well.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Shopping today and housework, then I need to decide what project to start next as I've finished my granny shawl, there are pics on my blog.
I have yarn to make more gingerbread men, felt and buttons to make Christmas decorations and another capelet already on my needles.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.13 -
Morning folks.Still dank outside, got to get used to this as it won't change this side of Christmas. My mouth pain is easing, the only problem now is the sharp ends of the stitches, a couple keep catching my tongue which is painful. I could go back to the dentist and have them shortened but that would make them more difficult to remove so I'll persevere and hope that they soften down in a few days. No more analgesics are needed so that's a plus. I spent a very quiet day yesterday, just listening to an audio book and resting.Speaking of Christmas - there's not too much prep to be done here. I've ordered Marks food for collection on 23rd December already so it's just the accessories to think about. I'll make red cabbage ahead of time. DM's crossword friend is coming on the day, he normally travels to stay withh is brother and family down south but won't be going this year. He was shielded earlier on and is reluctant to go by public transport. I've ordered some gin gifts online for my dearest friends. I've already got DM's present for me (a new book about the Ness of Brodgar) which I'll really enjoy.BELLA - I feel for you, I'm in the same position. For 20 months now I've been in a small bedroom in my DM's home with hardly any access to my own place and things. Whilst looking after DM is a privilege it's very wearing and isolating. I have hardly any friends here, even if I could see them, no other family and not able to do my own thing. On the plus side there are fabulous neighbours who jump the instant I ask for help - on Friday I had hardly finished texting one about the exploding lamp bulb before he was at the door. You'll work out a system to ensure your DM is comfortable. On Saturday I got so fed up with the rubbish bedside cabinet here that I ordered a new one with drawers. The one here only has a top and a doorless bottom locker type arrangement, such a load of wasted space which just stores dust. This means that there's hardly any room to keep anything in, after a load of stuff fell on the floor again I went into a real strop!
Anyway, a fully assembled set of drawers is on the way, probably not until next week.
Must get myself organised now, I've been really lazy since Friday, today I will go out if the rain eases. For now, Happy Monday to all and Happy St Andrew's Day to fellow Scots.12 -
Morning all; looks a bit dull out there at the moment but I have no plans to go out today.
I started writing a few C*mas cards last night and DH needs to go to the Post Office with one for Australia this morning as we hear things are even slower getting there at the moment. He will pick up some extra milk whilst he's out as we've decided to have plum crumble tonight and need it for the custard. The plums are from our tree, which sadly lost a branch this year, due to the weight of plums on the end of it!
Can't stay long here as I have a Zoom music session at 10am and need to be presentable for that - at least from the top half upwards!
Happy Monday everyone

Gers, I feel your pain, it took ages for my temporary filling to settle and now it's being replaced tomorrow. Fingers crossed the permanent filling will be problem free.
I'm waiting to talk to Laura because she had a blocked duct last night and wasn't feeling well at all, hopefully she'll be better today otherwise I may have to go down. I think she's run down because she had a stye the other day, she's trying to do too much. Poor Esben had conjunctivitis, it's been going round his plague pit of a nursery, he hasn't been one week when he hasn't come home with something (thankfully no Covid yet).
I need to pop to Lidl because I earned a £10 off voucher using their app and I need to spend it by tomorrow. I'll probably get some of their chocolate covered nuts for Christmas they are so addictive. I also had a money off earlier in the month, the rewards seem much better with that than any of the reward cards I've got.12
