Or you can cut out some board back to the studs, replace and make good.
Or scrim over the existing and make good.
It looks like whoever did it just stuck it on, roughly filled over it, and then put the paper up. So it might be worth us (carefully) removing it, and putting another repair patch over the top? Think replacing plasterboard etc. might be a bit much for us at the moment, but will run it by partner and his parents later on.2021 Fashion on the Ration Challenge - 66/66 coupons remaining.0 -
If you get a filler like this Knauf Fill and Finish Light 5kg | Wickes.co.uk it's easy to work with and sand down. I've used it on drywalling jobs. Easy to sand down. Does take 24 hours to go off as it's lime based, but if you want a quicker set there are cement based ones that set in 20,40, or 60 minutes.1

Hi. The right way to fix this is easier than you might expect.Take away whatever’s left of that mesh and trim the hole so it is neat.
Cut a bit of batten to fit behind the hole, and then screw into it through the sound plasterboard at each end to hold it in place.Get a scrap of plasterboard and cut it to fit the hole roughly. If necessary raid the local skips, or buy a quarter board.
Screw that to the batten, then fill all the gaps.If I can achieve a good finish doing this, so can you!
It’s actually easier to do than to describe. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1
