Razer blade pro (laptop) smoke out of warranty
I have just recently ran out of my warranty on my razer blade pro 2018 model. A few days ago while gaming and on charge there was smoke pouring out of my charging port and USB ports.
I’ve spoken To razer and been told it’ll cost £100 to rma and then I have to pay to have it repaired.
My thoughts are, after some googling I’ve found that this seems to be common, shouldn’t laptops have more of a shelf life than 2 years. I’m in the UK and unsure of consumer rights on whether I am liable to pay for this since it’s not broken on my own fault but an apparent common problem? Also the fact that if I had gone to another room it could have caused a fire it just seems a bit crap.
Still turns on, still smokes and smells burning when put back on charge.
Any feedback and opinions welcome. Thanks

That sounds like something shorting in the charging port, which sounds like user induced damage0

Your rights are with the retailer not manufacturer. After first 6 months of purchase the onus is on you to prove the fault was inherent at the time of purchase. Contact whoever you bought it from and see what the say. But if the fault has been caused by user error then your going to have to pay to fix it.2 -

It’s been my baby since day one so hasn’t been abused or ever left my house it cost me a few thousand pounds so obviously it hasn’t been battered about.0

If it smoke when charging, it is likely that the lithium battery is damaged. If so, it is dangerous and should not be used. It is probably too dangerous to be shipped back to Razer for repairs. I would ask them for advice.
I think with the age of the laptop, you are unlikely to win any case on the basis of your consumer rights unless you are able to investment a lot of time and money. I'm inclined to think that it will be cheaper to pay to have the laptop repaired if it can be.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -
Try and find a local company why could fix the charging circuit / change the battery and get a quote0
