Surely the relevant point here is whether they used either the gas or electricity during that brief period of access? If they did not, then the deemed contract did not commence.
However, since proving this either way is impossible in the absence of opening or closing reads, the only practical way of resolving this is to negotiate a 'reasonable' revision of the bill for the summer period. The standing charges will make up the bulk of the bill.
And then ditch Glide as the provider as fast as possible, of course.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks to everyone who has commented; Glide blocked the transfer to any new supplier - my daughter tried to set up with new suppliers and was blocked; we've taken advice from CAB and they confirmed that under a Deemed Contract any supplier can prevent a customer from moving.  Anyway, was just interested in other people's thoughts.

The process is that the deemed contract starts when they take possession of the property unless and until they open their own account, provide details, select a tariff, etc.  Once that is done and they are on a variable tariff they can switch suppliers immediately.

It is standard practice to take readings and phone the supplier on day one when you move in and select the cheapest non-fixed term contract.  Then switch to your preferred supplier as soon as you have time to sort things out.

What a surprise that Glide blocked the transfer.
Back to the Lettings agents to ask for the opening readings when the old tenants moved out or the Inventory was taken. What does it say on the Inventory for the meter readings.
The first lockdown ended on the 2nd of July.
Did your daughter and her friends all pay half rent for July and August ?
We are not having a go at your daughter but certain parties want to take advantage of young students.
