Can’t join nor escape Simplicity Energy

We moved into our new house on November 5th. The energy supplier here is Simplicity energy. (We own the house)

We called - no response
emailed - no response

Finally on November 24th they replied to say they’d passed my request to the change of tenancy team and would process my request within 10 working days (by December 10th). They would ONLY allow me to join by email, giving everything including name, birthday, bank account details etc. Literally no other method.

They won’t tell me the rate I’m paying. Surely this is illegal? I can’t even see the rates on their website and even if I could, I’ve no idea what rates apply to me.

Am I in for a fight? Why are they so rubbish? I just want to move back to British Gas, this shouldn’t need emails containing so much personal info and weeks of waiting.

Just go through the application process giving a guess for your consumption - get a quote and then "View This Plan" and your rates are there.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I always refuse to give an energy supplier my date of birth, it's simply none of their business.  So many daft companies use DoB and suchlike as a password.  The three golden rules of passwords are to use something known only by the individual, never to share them, and to change them from time to time as necessary.
Giving away your Date of Birth and Mother's Maiden Name (especially by insecure email) to all and sundry who have no legitimate need for them whatsover means that you're at risk of being robbed, hacked and having your identity stolen.

You don't have to give them your real DoB or mother's maiden name.  I make them up and give different ones to different suppliers.

Just don't complain when they will only give you a pre paid meter as without your dob I imagine they will not be able to carry out credit checks on you.

I've switched more times than you've had hot dinners, never given my DoB, never had any problem.
