Some of them certainly are; I can spot the odd familiar plant - amongst the dandelions and bindweed.

Yes the insects and consequently birds did quite like the mess.
  • Wow love the wild look!  Huge insect lover here so hope you keep at least one tier as a wild chaotic bit 🐝
Just my opinion, no offence 🐈

    I love that!
I kept a photo of one from online because I thought it was a wonderful idea but didn't have the nerve. Now I'm so tempted. No lawn mowing/weeding/moss raking either.
I can see our suggestions are somewhat unimaginative compared to your previous ideas. So what about a low 18" box hedge at the front and a mix of the shrubs suggested and insect friendly like Scabious and the garden Valerian behind?

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

To be fair it did look better than it does now, and it was very quick to clear at the end of the year.  I'll pull draw up a list of the suggestions and talk to the other half.

I'm with on low maintenance lawns, twopenny.  We recently killed of the grass in the back garden and went with creeping thyme. :)

Now I've seen the site, I think I'd find it impossible not to counterbalance the neighbour's pre-emptive strike to steal my audience of passers-by.
I'd have to go full eco-crazy with, say, prairie planting; like teasels, huge grasses and maybe even a pampas grass or three*. Then, in the middle tier, (tiers are 'in' this year ;) ) I'd probably install one of these:

*Don't worry, those who know what having a pampas grass in your front garden used to signify are all well north of 70 now!
I'm well south of 70, and I know exactly what a pampas grass signifies/signified!

It's a great plant though and teazles look good especially the seedheads if they're left on in winter - but they do self seed like crazy.

Like eryngiums. I couldn't believe how many seeds fell out of Miss Wilmott's Ghost when I hung it up in the polytunnel. Or it might have been Silver Ghost....one of them anyway and another nice 'wild' plant.
