    Where was it leaking from?

    How old is the machine?

It could be so many things. Something caught between inner and outer drum, bearings going, heater come loose and touching inner drum, inner drum distorted and hitting outer drum....

It's stuff between the inner and outer drum then. There's probably loads still there, sometimes the spinning inner drum picks up something and throws it through the outer plastic drum - that could be your leak. If it's at the bottom it leaks all the time, if it's at the top it leaks rarely. Halfway - somewhere between the two.
