O/S Daily Saturday 28 November 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Rubes - hope you're keeping comfortable x
Dark and cold start to the day here.
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and am enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. I'm working this morning. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Still dark, fog looks to have cleared, was a horrible day yesterday, wasn't very foggy first thing, then the fog came down and was foggy most of the day. I got done what I wanted and engineer was here early, identified what was needed, part has been ordered and once available they will call me to arrange appointment to come back to fit new part.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight will be a naughty egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, hash browns, beans and mushrooms.
Spent some time yesterday afternoon emptying my work bag, so loads of rubbish all got rid of and a new file in there with notes and paper, plastic wallets etc for notes. Was going to buy a new file then remembered I had a file that I used to use and it hasn't been for ages, so was sat in a cupboard - found it and it's as good as new, so that has been put into use.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc. Hope your work situation becomes clearer.
I have been up for several hours, just couldn't sleep, bet I'll be good for nothing later.
Ruby good news about the drains, hope the antibiotics kick in and deal with the infection. Silk dressings must be lovely and soft.
Bella, good to hear that your mum is in her own home.
Gers, that is brave, I will have a bridge when I have saved up, an implant felt too scary for me, as am total wimp.
Today I plan to be a slob. I might wash the kitchen floor though.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back15 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC. Hope work isn't too bad. There's a heavy frost this morning brrr, yesterday was a dark damp day, November weather.I've got shopping to do today, not a lot though, bread, veg, some fruit juice, and I'll finish the dog stocking that I started yesterday. There's also a couple of cards to make for birthdays, I was going to do them last week, but somehow they didn't get done.So it's all routine stuff here, I might start writing my Christmas cards and get them out of the way, the post seems to be taking longer, someone was telling me that Royal Mail staffing is badly affected by Covid.Really, I should have made Christmas cards throughout the year, heaven knows I had time, but i didn't.We don't send as many now anyway.Hope everyone has a good Saturday, thinking of our poorly people Ruby and Dumpling, and anyone else who is under the weather, take care folks15

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another nippy start but no frost or fog so not all bad.
I had a lovely afternoon with my 2 younger girlies yesterday, despite eldest being glued to her phone/my laptop most of the time! Youngest was straight upstairs for her craft box and made a few lovely little felt items and then resumed her knitting, just to see if she still remembered how to do it (she did!) They are back again Monday so no doubt a rinse and repeat of yesterday! (GERS no Bolognese Bake is still their favourite but fortunately they consider this a tea-time meal rather than a lunch!)
There is a mass testing programme in force for our borough - I think they are hoping to replicate Liverpool and get us down to a Tier 2. Anyway, and I may live to regret this, we had door-to-door knockers round yesterday wanting people to have a doorstep test this weekend and I agreed to one tomorrow.. Aaargh I am already gipping at the thought!
This morning I am off on my usual quick jaunt into town on the 8.45 bus, then the next bus back up. Sweeties top of my little list for my Strictly treat. Hope all our convalescents are doing well and GERS not in too much pain to enjoy her ice cream. Get well soon all of you. Thinking of BELLA and her DM too. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
MorningHeavy fog here all day yesterday, no frost though so the thermometer said it wasn't quite as cold. But it was so damp and I felt colder than the day before - I wore even more clothes for our walk and by the time I put my coat on I couldn't really move properly, lol. I didn't warm up all day. It's raining this morning but doesn't feel too bad, I've opened the windows to let some fresh air in and I feel quite comfortable.I'll whizz around doing housework this morning, stopping every so often to do some stretches - I've been quite lazy with exercise lately and feel bunched up and sluggish. I want everything done by lunchtime so I can have the rest of the day for myself. This will involve more stretching, NCIS New Orleans, Christmas decoration chaos and games with Scamp if I can drag him off the sofaBulletproof14

Bleurgh, I've been awake since 4.30. I finished my book, actually a children's book but very enjoyable and old fashioned although set in modern times (The Vanderbeekers of 141st St if anyone's interested). It reminded me very much of Elizabeth Enright's books, an American author I very much enjoyed as a child.
Steve had set the alarm for 6.45 so that he could get up and book a golf game next Saturday, he still only managed a 1 pm slot on the second course there. He'll do the same tomorrow and then he and Chris will decide which day to play depending on some combination of weather and things Crystal might have planned.
We have a tip slot booked this morning and I have some people coming to collect surplus contact lens solution. I have a contract and they always send too much solution so I have had a stash building up for several years. Laura put me on to an app called OLIO, it's like Freegle except they allow you to put food and toiletries/cleaning stuff that are open on them so long as they are not past the use by date. It only took a couple of hours for the lens solution to be snapped up so I have a few other things I shall try.15 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need especially Ruby.
I'm totally confused by all the rules with the tiers and have no idea if we can still go away in December or not.
I'm meeting my dd today, well we q are both going to walk our dogs in the same field, I have no idea if this is allowed but if I don't talk to another human soon I will lose my marbles.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.15 -
Morning
Waiting for my 8am Asda delivery no subs apparently. Usual sat plans here call with my age UK lady and some kitchen cleaning. No doubt a Christmas film later and Strictly of course.
Making James Martins (aka hubby) French onion soup for tonight. Its very squidgy and very warming (just like him really lol) only downside is the amount of onion slicing involved to it will be tears all round for a while.
Bella hope all is well with your mum
Rubes good to know they are treating you in the manner you're accustomed to with silk dressings
TA hope the test goes ok
Hugs to all x

Morning all.Everything went well yesterday. I was all wrapped up ready for the big freeze only to find that the regulations had changed again which now allowed for closed windows so I ended up being very comfortable.Once home I dosed up with painkillers, made DM her evening meal and prepared for bed. That's when I went to the bathroom, turned on the light and the bulb exploded. 😱 There was glass shards everywhere in a dark room and the metal end of the bulb still in the fitting. Luckily the lovely tall neighbour responded to my call for help (the ceilings are very high) to sort it out. Unhappily DM has drawers full of dud lamp bulbs, this kind of keeping things 'just in case' drives me crazy. Anyway, bathroom now lit again, there's a bag of bulbs to go to the tip and I've ordered new ones from Amazon. Then I went to bed! Pain free and sleepless too. However, all is well, I'm lying in bed still with an ice pack on my jaw, half and hour on and half an hour off. Today will be on the extreme side of lazy.TA - lovely to hear about your time with the girls. Love their food rules too.I've got some sleep to catch up with before SCD. Happy Saturday to all.12

Good morning everyone
Been up since 3.45am with a case of cramp striking me down in the middle of the night, how I swore under my breath so as not to wake Steve. Eventually it eased off but I was wide awake so I came downstairs to watch the news. Never mind, today is going to be a good day I feel especially as I would like to start decorating the living room for Christmas. Phoebe came downstairs and kept me company for a bit before she went back upstairs to try and get a bit of sleep.
We have shopping being delivered between 9-10, hopefully it will be nearer 9. We did the inventory yesterday so I have cut down on what I buy but I think I may have cut it a bit too far as I forgot Steve's cereal and puddings. He will have to manage for a few days as I have another shop booked on Monday for Lee's birthday cake and our Wedding Anniversary meal. I decided to get a Finest Meal Deal rather than a more expensive takeaway, especially as Lee wants a Chinese takeaway for his birthday meal.
My brain has stopped functioning due to lack of sleep/ tea so I will love you all and leave you. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning All
I got up at 5.30, thought the clock said 6.30! Anyway, I've half cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the downstairs bathroom, stripped and washed my bedding and folded yesterday's laundry. I've even had breakfast!
It looks quite bright out but not bright enough to put the washing out so that can stay inside. I may have to do some shopping today, don't seem to have bought any food for ages and the fridge is looking decidedly bare. I've put the fruit bowl in the DW and the three apples that were lurking in there look really rather sad.
How are you Ruby, you sounded much better yesterday. Glad you've got rid of the drains, hope the infection heals quickly.
Hope your mouth is better today Gers, at least it was warm!
Hugs to you bella, hope your DM is comfortable.
I'm hoping for a relaxing Saturday, hope you have one too. Take care. XX
