Gen1 smart meter automatically upgraded? What frequency to send meter reading?
I got an email from EDF saying that my Generation1 smart meter (installed via different company) was remotely updated which now means it can now send meter readings to them automatically. Has anyone experienced the same ?
Also there is a choice to send readings half hourly, daily, monthly. They prefer half hourly whereas I think daily will be better. What do you guys think?

maximum daily certainly not hourly. When most have these meters they will start charging like they do for say economy 7 but in much smaller segments. If they can tell you use most between 10am and 12am unlike most who use more at tea time, then you will find your highest charge will be between 10 & 12. If you think that sounds paranoid, then ask yourself why would they need to even know how much you use in any given day let alone half hourly.

I am with Octopus on HH metering. HH metering allows the supplier to produce very detailed 30minute consumption graphs. My last monthly statement ran to 35 pages. That said, unless you are on a time-of-use tariff there is no advantage in having HH metering. Indeed, it can work to your disadvantage it that one missing period out of 48 in a day can stop automatic billing. With a SMETS2 or an adopted SMETS1 meter your supplier no longer gets direct access to your meter data. This comes from the DCC via what is known as an adapter. This extra step can result in temporary data loss.

Others will know but all all SMETS1 capable of HH metering ?
I've got a commercial supply with meters that are perhaps better known as AMR and these can only provide daily totals. These cannot be upgraded to HH.
There has been no issue with these as I have changed supplier and they continue to communicate OK.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
