Life Insurance for Cancer

Hi everyone,
I thought I would put the question to everyone to see if everyone’s had a successful experience with finding an affordable life insurance for an individual who has/has had cancer.

my partner has a very low grade form of cutaneous lymphoma. He was diagnosed when he was 21 and he is 30 now and completely fit. His cancer is low grade and there’s no such thing as “remission” in his case. He is checked every 6 months and he has not had anything since 2.5 years ago. We are buying a house on which we are taking out a mortgage but we were denied life insurance from vitality today.

Has anyone with a high risk pre-existing condition been successful in finding an affordable life insurance and if so, can you share their name and third party website you got the quote from?

That was always going to happen with Vitality. Please don't tell me your broker recommended them?

It depends on your definition of affordable.  There are specialist insurers out there which will offer terms but the premiums will reflect the risk.  Does he have death in service through the workplace?

@HarryDavies01 thank you I have requested a callback from them

@dunstonh we do have death in service through work, but we wanted to take a life insurance out as well while we are relatively lower risk than a few years from now, also, our solicitor had advised us that the work ones are not a safe alternative but should rather be treated as a compliment to what we get through standard life insurance.
The quotes we have been receiving for joint cover are between 30-40 a month (that’s without the detailed questionnaire) so preferably wouldn’t want it to exceed 50 a month.

  • Although our policy goes back a good many years, we were paying almost £100 per month for life cover and critical illness benefits - me (with a good, clean history), my wife (with high blood pressure and an unenviable family history of cancers) through AVIVA. All done through our local small independent Financial Advisor, at the time, they provided the best spread of conditions covered on the day we signed.
Affordability was always an issue (my wife was never in well paid jobs and due to age difference, was always destined to retire long before me), but having just had to claim (successfully) for a cancer diagnosis it was money well spent.
Sorry, I can't recommend any better advice than maybe sit down with a small local independent Financial Advisor and have the nice, honest chat about your needs.
    Good luck
