Cheques are probably even less used than cash. I cent remember the last time I wrote one.

[Last week I had to write a cheque to open an account with a building society (demanded by them and they won't ID electronically).  I've held the current account for about 10 years and asked for a cheque book a couple of months before because I couldn't find one for the account.  When the cheque book arrived the first cheque was numbered 1 so I'd not needed to write a cheque on that account for a decade.]

If a lot of relatively small cheques are paid into an account (even bundled to use one pay-in slip) the group may find that bank charges outweigh the perceived benefit of not having to pay cash in.
