Cracks in wall and ceiling

Hi, I moved into a new home in August and recently cracks have begun to appear. We recently had the loft boarded so thought it could be that but now they are getting progressively worse. The cheapest quote for a structural engineer to look at them and tell us what to do is £400. Online it says then it is either just the age of the house (over 100 years) or major structural issues. Anyone had experience to be able to tell how big of a problem it is from these pictures?

It may well be the new loading in the loft. If that is old, brittle plaster below and the ceiling joints are flexing with new weight, then it way well crack. You would see it with a much newer house as well if people start walking around In the loft. We had it to a lesser degree when we insulated after plastering the ceilings. Did that in the wrong order! How old is the plaster? Have you knocked around the affected areas? Do they sound hollow at all.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
