O/S Daily Friday 27 November 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Rubes - hope you're keeping comfortable x
Dark and cold start to the day here.
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was scampi, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had baked fish and veg. Tonight will be something quick and easy.
Yesterday turned out to be a day of didn't seem to stop but don't feel like I achieved that much! I spent all morning doing a training session, then had to wait around whilst they organised and I collected a laptop - when I got to the collection point - someone else had been booked in at the same time but there was only 1 member of staff also then some programmes that I need wouldn't work .etc so I was hanging about waiting for them to sort that. Eventually left and went to the garage as one of my rear light bulbs needed replacing - I'd rang and spoke to them the day before as they were able to source me a new bulb and they said just come down it will only take seconds - when I got there all the mechanics were at lunch so I had to wait for them to return - eventually got my lunch late.
Work understandably isn't great at the moment - but I've decided I'm not going to become a worrying gibbering wreck because those who make the decisions can't conduct themselves in a decent and honest manner. Sometimes it makes you wonder how some people sleep at night. To say it's an unhappy ship is an understatement at the moment! I'm working tomorrow so I'm going to enjoy today although I have got quite a few chores to do and an engineer coming out to look at the dishwasher this afternoon.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Still thinking of you Ruby, hope you have the drains removed today.
Hope your dentist appt goes well Gers.
It's Crazy Hair day at school, I've put red food dye in the front of my hair, that'll do. Just hoping I don't get caught in the rain! It's also a dress down day so I'm in joggers and a hoodie. The trade for all this is something for the foodbank so I've got lots of toiletries to take in.
I'm off to the post office in a minute, the parcel of plants can't stay here forever so I'll post them off. It's a bit galling having to pay 2 lots of postage but as I haven't heard from the company I'll do my own thing.
Hope everyone has a good day, happy it's Friday! Take care. XX12 -
Morning all
Up early for me as I am going to hosp today to hopefully get the last two drains out and my dressings changed, I can wait to get the dreaded drains out as they make me so uncomfortable and I am allergic to most dressings and mine are starting to itch now so will be glad to have them changed.
Last night OH asked if I fancied fish and chips from the van in the village, I diddnt really but to save either of them cooking I said yes and I ordered a childs portion for myself thinking I would not eat it, there was a nice piece of fish and a load of chips, I managed to eat all the fish which was delicious and a few chips, it being a childs meal I got a drink and a lolly as well and ate both of thoseI really enjoyed it and I hope its the start of getting my appetite back.
Not sure about dinner tonight but dd has the day off so she will cook something, she is much more organised than OH and will tidy up as well, he does try but you can tell a bloke has done itshe came in after work last night folded the washing in the td put a new wash on and tidied the lounge / kitchen within 5 mins and made everything more comfortable.
Right better get on have good days all xx
Bella any news on mum ? xx13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. That was a day and a half for you yesterday. Hope today is better. Brr it's a nippy morning but we are escaping any frosty starts so far. Hope the drains go today RUBY and you feel more comfortable. GERS hope today isn't as painful as it sounds. BELLA thinking of you. x
For the first time in ages I have the 2 youngest DGDs today. Although we form a bubble we all agree it's better not to push my luck whilst they are at school and mingling with lots of other people. But today is a teacher training day and DD is working so I am having them here. Oh I do miss having them as much as I used to but hopefully those days will soon return. Lunch has been requested - pizzas - so that's easily solved.
As expected we are in Tier 3 so life will go on as though we are still in lockdown, apart from our dire selection of shops opening again. We have lost so many throughout the pandemic that we are slowly turning into a ghost town. I haven't been allowed to meet my buddies for coffee/lunch since March due to the strict restrictions in our borough and I so miss their company. It's annoying that we are parcelled up with the heavily populated city areas whilst we live in a quiet little hilltop village.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) and kind thoughts are going to our poorlies or poorly mums. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Nice to see you are feeling able to eat Rubes.
We have thick fog here but we aren't going anywhere so it won't be a worry but I'm sorry for all those who have to drive in it
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.13 -
Morning all
Thick frost and cold this morning but i am warm and toasty as mum has the heating on all night I turn it off in the bedroom and open the window as its too hot for me . Thank you all for your good wishes i really appreciate them mum has gone from independent and walking up and down stairs to tottering like a baby learning to walk ,several falls and needing a frame to mobilise her speech is also slightly slurry they are not sure if she had a mild stroke or something else is going on . Yesterday was busy with physio ,social services and district nurse so DD1 came and dealt with those as she is an adult social worker so better placed to know what mum should have so i popped home for a few hours and tidied up and changed the beds and washed the floors . We have decided mum will now live downstairs luckily she had a walk in shower room put in when my dad was ill and the study has a bed in there DH and DS will come on sunday to move some furniture downstairs as well as DH cooking Sunday lunch as a trial run for xmas as we are not used to the oven. Today we are expecting a special mattress , bed sides to help her get out of bed ,a loo seat and frame , a seat pad and a pendant alarm to be installed so another busy day. yesterday she accused me of throwing all her stuff away it was an old chair which was very low and impossible for her to get up safely from it didn't have any arms i put it in the garage it was 52 years old and was a nursing chair she bought for when i was a baby!
Ruby here's to a successful trip to have the drains removed
Nmic I hope that the bosses let people know what is happening sooner rather than later the not knowing is the worst bit
Gers Good luck at the dentist
Dumpling hope your doing ok and the meds are doing their thing x
TA hope Sparkle is ok and you managed to catch the allergy in time nothing worse than a constant itch
Taff you better hurry if you want to do the last bit of skip diving hopefully they are collecting it today to be fair its mostly dirt and a bit of hardcore
Right that's me up to date for today going to sit and have my tea and surf the web for a bit . have a good day whatever you are up toSlava Ukraini13 -
Morning folks.Life does throw us around a lot these days. It's a rough ride all round.RUBY - I hope that all goes well with drain removal and you feel better afterwards. Well done on the fish and chips front.TA - have the girls moved away from Bolognese Bake? Anyway, have a fab time with them. It is the lack of company which is really difficult.BELLA - big changes for your DM, it's so good that these changes are happening very quickly to let her back in her own home. I hope the medics get to the root of the new problems. Please also take care of yourself.Last night I made Nigella's no churn ice cream so I will feast on it after my op. Is that a good enough excuse? 😂 I'm off out this morning to do the usual Saturday shop along with extra analgesics. I don't like taking ibuprofen but it works so well alongside paracetamol that I'll do it for a couple of days at least.I haven't looked out yet but the forecast is for cold and dry weather so it's double vest time. The dental surgeon has to have the windows open during surgery so it'll be freezing there.Happy Friday to everyone.13

Good morning, I keep thinking it's Monday today for some reason.NMLC sounds like you had a miserable day, hope things pick up a bit.Glad you are getting your drains out Ruby, it's so restricting with tubes in isn't it and if you accidentally pull one a bit, ouch.Bella sorry to hear your Mum is poorly, just as well she's got you. you're going to be kept busy.Nice for you to have your girls TA, it'll be like old times! We are Tier 3 as well, I expected it. Just got to keep going I supposeI like the sound of your hair Camelot!Nowt in particular happening here, DS in Oz has asked me to make a Christmas stocking for their dog, after I posted on our family Whatsapp a picture of one I'd made for DD's dog. I'll do it today, but even with airmail I don't know if it'll get there for Christmas, I think they are restricting things going into Australia. Even if it's late the dog won't know .DS 2 said it showed I had too much time if I was making stockings for dogs!!Hope everyone has as good a day as they can - take care folks14

Morning all. Dull and a bit misty here today.
Yesterday we had a lovely 7.5 mile walk in cold but sunny weather. There were lots of dog walkers and cyclists out but plenty of room for everyone.
Today I need to return a Library book (we have a box for returns outside the Library door) and also do some ironing and sort out something for dinner. I think I also missed a Masterchef programme from last night so need to catch up on that at some point.
Happy Friday everyone13 -
Good morning everyone
I have had a much better night so I am in a really great mood this morning.
Ruby, I hope you can ditch the drains today as you will feel much more comfortable without them x
Bella, it's great that your mum's house can be rearranged so easily so she can come home. Hope she feels a lot better soon x
Gers, hope your grafts are as painless as possible. Great idea to stock up on painkillers and ice cream x
Well we didn't get round to doing the inventory yesterday so that is a high priority for today. The dogs also need a bath as they are a bit pongy. I have written all my Christmas cards this year so Steve will post them for me later as well. They have to be early this year as I have made advent cards which open every day to reveal a picture and obviously they start on the 1st.
Lots of stew left over from yesterday so that is dinner taken care of. Lee made biscuits but they are all gone now...yum..
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Hope you get some answers re Mum, BellaNmlc sounds like a bad day at the officeRR , I hope you feel a lot better with the drain out, sounds like DD is on the ball.TA - I sympathise with the lack of meeting friends. I met my oldest school friend for a walk at the end of July when she drove down from the Ribble but since then our town had the local lockdown, swiftly followed by Gtr Manchester being put in T3. Our wider group of friends hasnt met since Feb, & the same with my cousins , and 1 doorstep meeting with each of my brothers
I knew we'd be back in T3.
I want to get the Christmas tree out of the loft, a few people in our area , on a local app have decided to have a 'lights switch on 'at 7.30 tonight in the absence of the official one in town. Might cheer us upRight better get on with my jobs, take care all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)12
