Barking Dog

  • Every morning at about 4am i get woken by the sound of what sounds like a whole pack of dogs barking for about 5 minutes. Luckily its not right next door, but i sleep with the window open and its close enough to be able to hear. Dogs are creatures of habit, if they get into the routine of barking they will keep doing it.

Your only possible hope is that maybe they could hear the heating engineer working and this is what set them off set them off.

The dog barked for 20 seconds?  or 20 minutes?  And this was the first time in 4 (4!!!) visits where you've heard a dog?

You are going to hear the noise from people and dogs wherever you move to, you need to get used to the fact that nowhere is perfect.
The dog barked none stop for the 20 minutes I was there, the heating guy was there another hour and said it was continuous the whole time. I don’t mind hearing noise but constant barking dogs would drive me insane
How did you time the 20 minutes?

Seems highly likely considering there was no noise on the previous 3 visits.

Those are some very patient vendors!

The vendors don’t live there so it’s no bother to them. It’s a listed building and over 200 years old so everything needs to be checked before sale goes through. The estate agents are a two minute walk away so just open it when we need them to

I drove there and back and had to be there for 11:30 so knew wHat time I arrived and then I text my sister as I left so I knew what time I left, it was 22 minutes
  • I'd stay well clear.  Not that you can ever control when your neighbours will get an animal that they are completely incapable of looking after properly.
  • You have been there other times and heard no dog barking, this time you did, for 20 minutes.  But the owners could have gone out shopping for an hour.  Not really abuse so.., on the available evidence, I think you are overempasising the misery of the dogs.

BUT conditions are strange right now.  A lot more people are working at home than in the past.  What happens if the owners next door go back to working outside the house?  Things change.., and you could get a lot more barking.

I'm afraid I'd consider looking for somewhere else.  But you can't be responsible for every dog in the world.  I don't agree with having a dog and going out to work for 8 plus hours a day.., but its not generally considered abusive to do so.

The owners both work away from the house full time. The barking started before I arrived and continued after the electrician left which was over an our later. We found out who the owners are from the estate agents, one works in a factory and the other ins nursery so have been working throughout lockdown
  • And yet no barking the first 3 visits...

Working full time and owning a dog is not abuse.

Not abuse but anyone with a spaniel knows it’s cruel to shut them in the house all day, they’re not lap dogs, they’re high energy and need physical and mental stimulation throughout the day :( they have a cockapoo and a springer spaniel, both which needs huge amounts of company. I would never recommend a spaniel to anyone out the house all day, it’s cruel in my opinion. I have a cocker spaniel and if I have to go out for the day he is looked after by my parents because he would go crazy from boredom in the house, that’s why dogs bark, either they need something, they’re bored or they’re anxious.
