Paying off Citicard visa

Over the last couple of months I have been trying to pay extra off my citibank card and so I have sent off cheques. I have a direct debit set up to take the min payment out of my bank. I have noticed that when my statement comes I am not paying anything off the balance. When I have send the cheque off to Citicards they just deducted the amount off the next min payment.
So how would I be able to pay off more? I would of thought that they would take the cheque and take the min payment aswell, not to deduct the amount from my next direct debit.
Some months I am not able to pay more than my min payment, other months I am.
Can anyone give me any advise on how I can pay more when I want too.

Some credit card do alter their Direct Debit payments if there has been payment into the account before the DD is due.
To pay off more than your direct debit amount, you'll have to pay more than your DD - this will stop your DD coming out.
So say if your DD for minimum payment is £25, and you'll like to pay £60 into the credit card, you'll have to pay £50 by cheque when you send the cheque (or by online banking), not £35.
Hope this helps!0
