Car Finance
Options
Hi everyone, I wondered if anyone would be able to help/make any suggestions. Me and my partner have a Merc which is on finance, we have paid almost 3 years of it and still have 2 left. However, the engine kindly decided to blow and after having Mercedes look over it, the work to get it repaired is more than what the car is worth and about the same amount left on the finance. So I rang the finance company to see if there was any way around this. The only option they have said is to scarp the car for about £3500 and then be left with about £6000 still to pay off. Which is obviously a bit crap to pay that much for basically nothing as we wont have the car at the end of it. We have had nothing but problems with the car for the last 2 years and have paid at least £2000 on repairs since having the car however, we got it from a dealership which we believe to be dodge. I wondered if anyone knew of any suggestions to make the hit a little less painful/ ways around it. I do also know that its sometimes sods law but worth an ask! Thanks in advance!

If you have a Mercedes less than 3 years old, why isn't it covered by warranty for the blown engine? I assume you had the car serviced.0

The finance is unrelated to the car, you'd be in the same boat if you'd paid cash.
So your options are basically to pay to fix the car (maybe not worth it if you think it's a lemon anyway) or get rid of it. Either way you're still paying the finance - you can't return it to the finance company unless it's fixed.

Yes, we had thought about getting a second hand one for around £5000 but then there is the chances of paying for it and it not ticking over once in as its second hand? Or would you still go for it?0 -
