Dell Laptop cant get internet connection pls help

Hi Guys please can someone help me?
My xmas pressie to myself was a lovely 1721 dell laptop which arrived this morning.

First thing I tried to do was connect to my home wireless internet connection.

I have found my connection clicked connect only for laptop to say
"windows cannot connect to xxxxx" I have retried this several times and says the same thing each time.
I have other wireless connections running off the same router & my wifi is def switched on, on my dell any advice on what I'm doing wrong please! Many thanks

Have you put in your password that you use i am guessing it is a secure set up that you have used.
Sometimes i think it pays to first connect using a cable and make sure you have selected the auto detect configure setting.

What sort of router are you using?

i know im naughty its not a secure connection i need to sort that out too & its a us robotics brand

yes i have lol im not insulted at all the dell finds my wirless connection says its strong tries to conect to it then says unable to do so!
