"Have you asked for an Occ Health referral?"
I had an online meeting with Occ Health, they were pretty keen to transition me back into work until i said that i couldn't see it happening in the near future, i have an online meeting with my manager, HR and my union rep. Im thinking i will likely be fit for work in a couple of months - can they dismiss me if im doing everything i can to get back to work? The problem i have is that pain is invisible and this type of residual pain can go on for years, the condition i have can be triggered again by stress and my job is really stressful, although only 3 days.  I can get immunised against the condition recurring in April so id like them to wait until then, is that unreasonable?

Is this shingles?  If so, I can sympathise with the pain - although I had mine as a teenager and so recovered fairly quickly.
If I'm right, then I very much doubt that you'd get any level of ill health retirement.  The only thing I can suggest is that you keep your HR updated with your progress.  As long as you are able to produce sick notes from your Dr (or are they called 'fit notes' now?) you should be ok, at least until your 50% pay period ends.
Have you asked if your job could be adjusted, even if only temporarily, in order to alleviate at least some of the stress?
