Hello there, a family member has just had an email from a website mycrs.co.uk with a very small debt owed to Bristol Energy from 2018 (which she had no knowledge of) she doesn't ever cancel Direct Debits and i've always used CheapEnergyClub to switch her.

I know Bristol Energy have been sold to someone else but has anyone else had this? She's had 0 correspondence from Bristol Energy and the first she heard about it was this email. The debt is less than a tenner and as far as she was aware everything was settled with them when she switched. But she's obviously worried her credit file may already have been marked etc.

  • She can check her credit file and find out to start with. Are they in administration or still going ?
  • I have an ongoing battle with Bristol Energy. I haven't been a customer for a year, but received an email from them 2 weeks ago with attached statement saying I owed them £55 and they would be taking it by direct debit. Looking at the statement I didn't think it was accurate but couldn't double check as my old laptop is broken and I don't have those records on my new laptop. I cancelled the direct debit because I don't want a company that I no longer have an account with helping themselves whenever they wish but also want to be able to check the facts before making a payment.
Two days later I had another email from a Company called BE 2020 (previously Bristol Energy) which stated that I had a credit of up to £250 that needed to be refunded please call CCR Ltd. to arrange repayment. Its taken me a couple of weeks to get replies from either. the first 3 emails to Bristol energy only received the standard response we have your email and will reply within 2 days (they didn't) meanwhile I have been getting daily emails from them - Balance still outstanding, please pay by direct debit.  At first I thought scam, but it checked out on Bristol Energy's website. Eventually they sent me a personal message - Urgent response required - you owe us money. This email address did not have a no reply label so I replied.
The outcome is I eventually got through to CCR and Bristol Energy owe me £120 apparently they often wrongly roll people over to a standard tariff at the end of their contract. Bristol Energy dispute they owe me anything and have given no details other than we looked into your account and you still have to pay.
I would say that they have a team set up at takeover that are chasing old debts without checking if those customers have been correctly billed. I won't be paying anything until I receive the money they owe me, their right hand does not know what their left hand is doing!!!
  • I have received email 3 times saying I have credit balance less than £10. Apparently no admin is done by Bristol Energy (BE 2020) as supposed to have given to CCR to sort out. Anyone had a genuine response from CCR? Is this definitely not spam / scam?
