De-energised MPAN
Hello
I currently have a Related Meter with two MPANs which the property previously used for storage/water heaters. However, this electricity supply was removed by the electrician when the storage heaters were removed and replaced with electric heaters (the property does not have gas). I am currently with Bulb and have been paying two standing charges - one for my main day/night rate supply (MPAN 1) and the other for the redundant supply which used to feed the storage heaters (MPAN 2). I submit my meter readings each month - 3 figures: day, night and the old storage heater supply - and the reading for that supply does not move/stays at the same value. I discussed this with Bulb and they advised that I should get MPAN 2 de-energised and that they would organise this to be amended on the supply database. However, I'm not entirely sure where this leaves me in terms of switching suppliers in the future. I have spoken to another supplier and they're of the view that I would only need to transfer MPAN 1 over as MPAN 2 would be updated on the database as being de-energised.
Does this mean I can disregard MPAN 2 as it would be de-energised and the supply is effectively 'dead'? Or will it likely cause me problems?
Thanks

Standing charges will be least of your worries if you've switched to heaters powered by daytime electricity, especially from an expensive company such as Bulb.0

Do you still have a second meter? The only was to avoid standing charges if you no loger need a second meter (and yes comments about paying though the roof for electric heating stand but is your choice), then you need it removed and a logical disconection which sets the mpan as no longer in use. Should be cheaper than a lot of electric point removals as I assume they use the same incoming cut out.1

Thank you! I have one meter but two supplies. It's a digital meter and the electrician didn't mention anything about having to get a new meter, just that the connection was 'dead' and disconnected. I take it there is a difference between an MPAN being de-energised and disconnected?Carrot007 said:Do you still have a second meter? The only was to avoid standing charges if you no loger need a second meter (and yes comments about paying though the roof for electric heating stand but is your choice), then you need it removed and a logical disconection which sets the mpan as no longer in use. IN simple terms yes the mpan will be dead - de-energised is the correct term. you wont be able to register it or transfer it. you will only have to move mpan 1Mark2019 said:Hello
