Work from Home Allowance

I have a query on the work from home tax allowance.
I made a claim to HMRC in October as I started working from home on 23rd March of this year.
My tax code has been changed (on October 19th) however, the payments on my payslip this month have only been back dated to the date my tax code was changed.
Maybe I have misinterpreted what Martin Lewis had said, but I thought we were able to claim back to when we first started working at home?

Your tax code effects how much tax you pay, the change to your tax code is normally so that over the rest of the tax year you will pay less tax, so that you have received the allowance in full by the end of the year, if you were then claiming again in 21/22 then the allowance might well be spread over the whole of the year. As the allowance is £1.20 per week (unless you are a higher rate tax payer) and in the October to March period there are six months one would expect that it would have an impact of around £2.40 per week, or around £10.40 pcm. How much did your tax bill decrease by and what did you actually expect to receive?2

Just looking at my payslip, my tax refund due to claiming WFH allowance has reduced my PAYE tax this month, bumping up my take-home pay.
It's £42.59 less I've paid in tax this month compared to last month.
As said above, it's not a huge amount as it's tax relief on £6 a week.
Have you compared all the figures from your previous payslip to this one?Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
I think this is where I have made the mistake, I had calculated £6 a week not the tax relief on £6MovingForwards said:As said above, it's not a huge amount as it's tax relief on £6 a week.1 -
It's your employer who could have paid you £6/week tax free.MrsMushroom said:
