It's a bit like you ordering a bike and having an invoice with a bike plus the things you DIDN'T take (ie wider wheels, tyres etc). They'd only mention relevant info, not random unrelated info. Therefore I'm not adding anything up. I'm reading it as it's intended to be read - they've used their own data from +20 years ago and declined based on that. There's absolutely no disputing that. It's all good. I've established the reason now - so will just bin HSBC if they're annoyed over a few pence from 33 years ago. 🙈0

Instead, it supports HSBCs decision to retain old customer records so they can go back 33 years and pay compensation for historic events..2 -

It's the ONLY explanation. The thing is nobody here knows each other's situation. So stop presuming it's my not fitting their criteria when I've said several times I do.0 -

you know part of their criteria that they publish, but not what their while internal criteria are that they don’t publish.5 -

funkycredit said:So it appears that FD go back 20+ years, in relation to their memory of keeping data.I closed my FD account before y2k and it was all paid / all good etc and just moved banks through choice. Now, when I apply I'm met with this email which pretty much tells me it's internal records they're relying on - not the CRA info.Oh well - least we know their memory is longer than most.I'm not overly bothered, just slightly curious what info they think they have so SAR will be sent today me thinks. With a clear instruction to cease processing my data. After 20 years there's no legal (or otherwise) reason for my data to be there.Anyway - thought I'd share as I've seen a few posts about HSBC / FD in this regard! No harm in requesting a SAR. But my read it slightly different. I believe they have reviewed the info in the credit report and whilst there is nothing adverse to reject you directly, its risk assessment based on your postcode, job sector, number of other open accounts you have, international links etc. means they dont want to onboard you as a new customer.

Forgot to update this. I wasn't declined after all. All a bit weird but I eventually received an opening letter / signature page which I returned and everything was opened. Not entirely sure why I got the sms that I did!1

Just to add. Logged in earlier and went to credit cards tab (via app) and it showed both cards so I selected the purchase (gold one) and after checking my income etc it showed a slider set at £0 but upto £20k. Not being sure if this was a pre-approval or not; I closed the app and logged in through the browser.Same process as above but this time the slider was set at £13000. So I guessed that was a pre-approved limit. Anyway clicked next and then it confirmed I'd got it at the advertised rate. No search was done - all seemed very "internal".Logged in ten minutes later via the app and the new credit card with limit of £13000 is there. So far, it's all looking pretty impressive. Only had to talk to them once to set up my password.1
