BEWARE CENTRALMONEYGUARD.CO.UK

Centralmoneyguard.co.uk last week tried to take £29.99 from my son's bank account even though he had no idea who they are.
Thankfully the Halifax stopped any payment being taken and we have to praise their fraud prevention team for this.
Centralmoneyguard.co.uk is a trading name of Clarke Madison Ltd, a Cardiff-based company owned by a Portuguese guy called Pedro Ramos. He has 5 other companies registered at the same Cardiff address.
Has anyone else come across these guys or had any similar issues with them trying to take money out of accounts illegally?

I doubt they've taken money 'illegally' - it's more likely that on some website your son has used to buy something, or to get a loan, or whatever, had a link to this affiliate during checkout.  Usually with some slightly dodgy offer saying there's a free service of some sort, but it's only for the first month, after which you get charged on the card you were using at the time. Tick here to opt in.
It's not that unusual - you just need to keep an eye out for it. Very annoying when it happens and a very large number of people it happens to swear that they never ticked the box, but they must have!.
  • I noticed this on the Argos site last week. 'Get £10 off your next order', means you sign up to a 'money saving' organisation that charges a monthly fee. A lot of people complained on this site a while back.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

I agree with the other post, I reckon your son has clicked on something.
Your not being told the full story here.

Cant make it any clearer than that on the front page of their website.

Clearly someone clicked on a link. Son not been looking for a loan by any chance?

I thought more likely to be to do with a loan application than spending with Argos, but no doubt OP will find out!

    From their website:

    How does it work?

We are an online service assisting you to protect, manage and budget your money. We also help you save and teach you how to maximise your monthly income all in one place. A subscription to our service allows you to add as many bank accounts as you need, track every transaction across all accounts, be alerted to suspicious activity and stop any fraudulent behaviour.

It doesn't seem to be much more than an aggregation service.
