Car insurance - don't rely on a continuous payment authority

Your situation can be considered "special reasons". It's not a defence that will prevent you being found guilty, but it is something that could get your penalty points reduced and a disqualification avoided. I recommend you get a good motoring lawyer.Insurers are required to give reasonable notice when it comes to cancelling a policy, but whether that applies to a policy being voided from the start I don't know. You could raise your case with the Ombudsman, who have the power to reverse LV's decision to void your insurance; I think the main grounds would be that LV went directly to voiding without giving you an opportunity to provide alternative payment, considering that this situation is entirely foreseeable to LV on an insurance renewal using a CPA, and that their notification of the policy voiding was not adequate. Again, you need good legal advice, especially as you really want any Ombudsman decision to be made before you are tried for the criminal offences.Earlier this year I had a similar situation with Aviva, although that was on a monthly payment. They contacted me to ask me to update my payment details, they didn't immediately cancel my insurance! So I think LV have been extremely customer-hostile in your case.0

It's a really rubbish situation, but given you have found the email and you had the card number changed I can't see the insurance company taking any responsibility.I'd echo the comment about some kind of software or spreadsheet to look after this for you - it certainly takes the worry away.0
