O/S Daily Tuesday 24 November 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Rubes - hope you keeping comfortable x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, but mild.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO's so no waste added some extra veg and remembered to get the chicken out to defrost for tonight - we'll have that with mash, veg and gravy.
Yesterday was quite a productive day - made good headway with the chore list, also was a nice day pottering about doing it at my own pace. Back to work this morning, and working tomorrow. Then have training on Thursday for some new tech - and then working on Saturday so quite a full week - that's why I wanted to get ahead at the start of the week.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, quite a busy week for you.
Glad to hear you're home Ruby, hope you are letting everyone look after you and you take it easy and rest.
I called at the shopping centre on my way home yesterday (well, not quite on my way home but still in our council area) and put a good dent in the Christmas shopping with little presents for folk who are good to me during the year (especially the dinner ladies!). I got them all wrapped when I got home so feeling very virtuous! Just a couple of things to order now then I'm done.
It's raining again so set to be another grey day. It was almost dark at 2.30 yesterday, I would like a little bit of sunshine please.
Hope everyone's well, take care. XX13 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC, hope work goes ok.It seems cold here this morning, though can't expect too much considering we are nearly at the end of November.Pleased to hear you're home Ruby, and hope you're feeling better, there's nowhere like home !We had a quiet day yesterday as usual, and there's not much planned for today, I'm making a Christmas pudding for DS and family - I could have done it when I made ours, but didn't know they wanted one, Dil asked on Saturday when we met up. Anyway the fruit is soaking in brandy, and I put some orange zest and juice in. There's enough mixture for a couple of puddings but they keep well. I just use the good old Be-Ro recipe.Taff I laughed when you said you thought South Shields was the coldest place on earth, when did you visit, January? Joking aside, it can be a bit bleak on the coast here at times, but as Gers was saying we have lovely beaches, even if you need a big coat on when you're building sandcastles! When our family was young we used to go to the beach for a walk every Boxing Day, even if it snowed, those were the days!Hope everyone has a good day anyway, and thinking of Dumpling and others who aren't well.Take care folks13

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. Yesterday felt bitterly cold all day but much milder this morning thankfully.
RUBY I hope your first night home was uneventful and you managed to sleep and keep pain free. x
As usual nothing of interest to waffle on about so take care folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Morning everyone.I'm up and dressed waiting for a delivery from W between 8.00 and 9.00. My orders are done for the heavy stuff, washing powder, bleach and so on. Then I have an item to collect from Argos. Rain is coming across from the west so I hope to get out and back before it appears. My new phone pick up was easy enough, setting it up was a little interesting though it does a lot by some sort of magical transfer. 😀 Now I just have to set up my banking apps which means digging out passcodes etc. It'll fill my day. I did the MSE thing and traded in my previous phone so saved money there. 😇Ruby - I'm sure you're taking things really easy and letting others look after you for a change.Taff - walking on the beautiful beaches at Bamburgh, Druridge Bay and then doing the classic walk from Cullercoats to Whitley Bay are such joyous memories for me. Yes, the east coast wind is like having freezing air blasted at you, hats, scarves and gloves all keep everything cosy.Enough of digging into my past life. For now I wish everyone a happy Tuesday.11

Morning all
Cant write too much as I am in pain and it takes a lot of effort to type (who knew!!! ) will read back over the last few days as and when I can.
The op went well and the lovely Nels as well as my dd and OH kept me virtual company while I waited to go down, I think the op took about 8 hours and the next three days have been a blur of feeling and being sick and a drug induced haze which was not pleasant.
DD's turn to look after me today (OH is tomorrow) and she has me tucked on the sofa with blankets as I was cold, I have a cold juice and a hot cup of tea, I have had my tablets so will soon be off to LaLa land again but just wanted to pop my head in and say hello and thank you all so much for the support.
Much love xx17 -

Good start to the day as the nurse has wrote me another 6 months of HRT was slightly stressed they would turn me down but we had a laugh about both of us being up for murder if anyone said no.
Anyway that's done til May
Costco delivery was all there yesterday. I ordered some lazy garlic which came in a huge catering jar so I will be repelling vampires with all my meals now. Garlic bread is clearly my future
Todays plans are a big fat nothing again although there's plenty I could be doing if I can move my !!!!!!
Have a great day all13 -
Morning all! Good to see you posting Ruby, commiserations for the pain, hope your painkillers ease off to the normal ones soon. I didn't go anywhere yesterday but I did unearth a pair of short ish chocolate colour velvet curtains from St.Michael [ anyone remember that far back?] that I got off ebay a few years ago. I'll measure them up for the bedroom upstairs, or add a band of material to the bottom for the front bay window. Not sure yet. What I am sure about is that the lining is so old it just fell apart in my hands when I was smoothing it out, so I'll have to find something to use for a new lining. I like the look of curtains pooling on the floor but it's not practical upstairs because the radiator is right in the middle of the bay. I haven't tackled the pink velvet ones yet...I woke to the dulcet tones of workment replacing the sodium lights for LEDs so it's going to be super bright in the street tonight. I like the brightness of the new lights but it's confusing when I drive out of my street [they have already replaced the lights on the road at the top of the street a month or two ago] in the dark because it's so bright and I'm so conditioned to think 'white light = car headlights' that I end up stopping at the head of the street. No bad thing I suppose.Scarlet,Gers, yes I think I was just unprepared for how cold it is when it's smashing you in the face. I didn't remember until now but I did actually buy a new coat when I was there. I remember it was purple...And it was in winter yes, but I think maybe February...Camelot, same, I'm bulding up bits for the bin men, no idea what to do for the milkman though, I've never seen him face to face...Nelski, new job vampire hunting? I did laugh at the hrt though...TA, hope you find something fun to do! dumpling, topsy, take care of yourselves.. Hey all reading along, take it easy Tuesday on the cards....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13

Morning all.
RedRuby, glad you are at home. Everything seems better from the depths of your own sofa. Hope you soon drift off into a less painful place.
Gers, your mention of Bamburgh reminds my of a girl I once knew. Her father worked on the ships (as most men did in Southampton in the 40s) and he worked on the line where a lot of the ship's were named after castles. His surname was Castle and when his first daughter was born he was on the Bamburgh Castle. Are you ahead of me? Yes. He named her Bamburgh.
Heaven help anyone who mentioned that, she was always known as Bambie.
Anyway, back to mse. Plans for today are doing all the things that didn't get done yesterday. I don't have cooking to do as my trusty soup-maker made enough for 2 days and I need to use some eggs, so it will be omelettes to follow.
All my washing dried overnight, so that will have to be folded and left to mature until I have an ironing mood.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The fact that there is a highway to hell and only a stairway to heaven says a lot about anticipated traffic numbers.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.12 -
Ruby, thanks for making the effort to post, keep resting as much as possible.
Steve spent yesterday refitting the laminate floor in the study because it was bowing up. He thinks that he used the steam cleaner on it a while ago which caused it to expand. I'm just glad it wasn't me who did it! We've got someone coming to replace a double glazed pane in our bedroom window. We only had it done last year but it must have been faulty because we started getting condensation between the panes.
Flu jab was fine, the surgery was very quiet and fingers crossed for no side effects. I need to go shopping today and make some broccoli and cauliflower tots for Esben from the Joe Wicks baby cook book. He loves them and also the broccoli and cashew pesto from the same book, he doesn't seem to be much of a meat eater and unfortunately until he has his allergy tests we don't want to give him any fish. The consultant said he might grow out of his salmon allergy so we're hoping that fish will be back on the menu soon. We'll have a pasta bake for dinner I think, last night we just had snacks because Steve has some ulcers on his tongue making it difficult for him to eat.
