I had a new toilet fitted about 6 months ago , a fault has developed in the cistern and the plumber who fitted it has managed to get a replacement part free of charge as it was less than 12 months hold , however he says he has to charge me £40 to change it for his time. Is it fair for him to charge me for this even though he only fitted the toilet 6 months ago ?

Who supplied the cistern .

Did you pay the plumber for it or buy it yourself .

The plumber got the cistern from supplier he uses the . He told the supplier about the faulty part and they gave him a new part free.

So to be explicit, you paid the plumber to supply and fit the toilet or you paid him to fit it and bought it from his recommended supplier yourself?

If you paid him to supply and fit then he has to deal with the faults including his own time/costs. If he can get anything back from his supplier or not is between him and them and nothing to do with you.
