Hi
I have been in Egypt 3 years and only have an Egyptian mobile now.
I haven't used my English mobile for 3 years so it is locked.
I have asked Nationwide to remove my English number from my personal details but they reply

As you have no other contact details other than the Egyptian mobile we are unable to update your contact details at this moment. Our system will only accept a UK based number.
A few days ago I tried to book a holiday with Travel Republic with my FlexAccount, which I have done many times.

This time they said we have sent a code number to your mobile (the English), which I didn't get, so booked the holiday with my Egyptian bank.

Yesterday I looked in my account and Nationwide charged me for the booking

So I now have made 2 bookings for the same holiday.

My question is:

How were Nationwide able to take my booking if I did not enter the code number they sent to make sure it was me?

Thanks

    You need to ask Nationwide.

I dont think you have 2 bookings only two payments. I expect the nationwide  will all bounce and be recredited.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I sent Nationwide a message yesterday.
Travel Republic sent me 2 confirmation emails.
I thought nothing of it, just thought they had sent a duplication.
When I saw Nationwide had sent TR money, I looked at the 2 emails.
2 different reference numbers, one paid with my Nationwide Visa card, one paid with my Egyptian bank Mastercard.
I cancelled the Nationwide booking and am getting a refund.
Just don't understand how, when I didn't receive or enter their code number, to prove it was me, they sent TR money.
    Thanks

  • If I were you, I would be grateful that NW did not block your account.  Having told them that you're not able to give them a UK phone number for them to contact you, they could have frozen your account as they need a way to contact you to verify payments or setup payees.

Why would they want to block me?
They know I am living in Egypt.
My Egyptian address is in my personal details.
I am still waiting for a reply as to how my transaction was able to go through after they said they had sent a code to my phone which I had to enter to prove it was me.
I did not receive or enter the code.
