attic polystyrene insulation boards ?

is it ok to place polystyrene type board insulation between rafters in attic ,they will be touching slates on roof.
I am not sure , and I don't want to cause damp/wet issues. when we had the rockwool type insulation in cellar , there was a musty smell wafting up from cellar. upon investigation , some of the insulation was dripping wet at various places in the cellar.
attic is quite cold , and hoping insulation might help

Comments

  • No. You need to leave a space for ventilation between your insulation and the slates.

Bear in mind that ordinary polystyrene is highly flammable and gives off toxic fumes. Please make sure the product you use is installed in a way that means your house won't become a death-trap.
