Help heating problems - gas boiler, header tank hot.

Any help much appreciated. We have just moved and so have no trusted plumber.
Ideal gas open vented boiler. Honeywell controller.
If only heating on, the boiler doesn't start, it's like it doesn't send to the pump/valve/boiler.
If I select hot water, the boiler starts, and I get hot water and the radiators heat up.
However there's another issue which really worries me, the hot water gets very very hot and the header tank for the feed is also very hot. A Google has scared me about the header tank splitting and pouring scaling water over us below.
Had a local plumber who is coming back to change the three way valve tomorrow. But will that cure either issue?
Currently I've turned it off as scared myself over the header tank and am obviously freezing.

Sounds like you and the plumber are doing the right thing. If it's off nothing bad can happen. When the plumber turns it on you can check all is OKI am not a cat (But my friend is)0
