>> I'm looking to buy a used car, a small hatchback - most likely a VW Polo or Ford Fiesta with a budget of 11k.
As you're looking for long-term reliability, avoid the Ford 1.0 engine. And avoid the VW.
Instead I'd recommend a Toyota. Or a Kia/Hyundai.0 -
You will undoubtedly have a turbo to replace unless its a non turbo model and it'll be awfully slow.
I had a turbo on my Skoda Octavia. It was still going strong at 145,000 miles. As far as I know, it was the original turbo and if it wasn't, it still lasted at least 100,000 miles, which was the mileage I did in that car.
