You can have hot tanks without header tanks.

There is probably something wrong with this combi then, it takes ages for the heating processing to begin. when i run the tap after it's not been on for a long time, it takes 30 seconds to get from cold to lukewarm, then at 50 seconds it gets to full hot temp.

In a cylinder system it takes maybe 3-4 seconds before you have hot water flowing. Never waited 30 seconds.

If I have the central heating on, then I always get hot water "on tap" from the combi. In hot water only mode I have to wait 30 seconds to start getting a flow of hot water. There seems to be a big lag for the combi to kick in, it's the cheapest of the cheap main combi 24. Could be just the way these boilers are being so cheap.

I used to have an old (over 25 years old) Ideal classic boiler and was beginning to play up so I bought a Vaillant combi boiler and I much prefer them.

Using the old system I had to heat up water in a copper holding tank upstairs in the airing cupboard even if I only wanted to wash the dishes in the kitchen !

I have my combi boiler fitted where my old boiler was in the kitchen and this works out just fine as I have my kitchen sink right by my combi boiler so I only have a short run of pipe.

My basin and bath in the bathroom are only a few metres away as my bathroom is downstairs as I have an extension virtually next door to the kitchen so this combi setup suits me fine.

My bathroom basin is approx 5 metres away and my bath approx 9 metres away so not much water wasted.
What I usually do is leave the cold water run into the bath (by first of all using the plug) and use this cold water for the bath rather than let it be wasted down the plughole !

What make and model is it? Try just turning the hot tap half on to slow the flow through the boiler thus making it heat up much more quickly.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
