Depending on the age of the radiators they may be imperial lengths rather than metric so modern replacements won't necessarily be a direct swap. There are adaptors/spacers available to make up for the difference in length.

I had imperial radiators replaced. I got new TRVs. The gas engineer had to do a bit of pipework as the new radiators were not exact in width. Not an easy DIY job, so i would pay for a professional.1

As you stated that they are "a bit dated" there is a good chance that some of the valves may not operate correctly or close off fully and the last thing you need is a radiator half off with a valve that won't shut.
If there are a few that need removing, you might well end up having to drain down the system before they are taken off.2
