You don't need to see an IFA - it wouldn't be cost-effective to deal with one for a pot of that size, even if you could find one able and willing to deal with you!

Far better to research via information in the public domain and/or through any advisers you deal with for your business.  There's plenty of info on this site and others such as https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/categories/pensions-and-retirement

You have probably read about people being scammed out of their pensions . It does happen to a tiny minority but for the majority pension is the best way to save for retirement.
Open one on line and deposit £10K to get started and organise a regular monthly direct debit . Have a look at these.
Legal & General - Your personal pension (legalandgeneral.com)
Set up a Private Pension Online | Personal Pension Plans - Nutmeg
Do you offer a Pension or a SIPP? | Vanguard UK Investor (vanguardinvestor.co.uk)
  • There is a widely held view about pensions that is wrong and based on Maxwell and the Mirror pensioners
For this - I really don't like the term "pensions" from a SIPP/Personal Pension, there is no guaranteed income
They should be called long term tax efficient investment vehicles or something more catchy
A lot of my friends in the pub who are self employed (painters, builders, plumbers, farmers etc) are all investing in BTLs for their retirement because that is what they understand.
The FCA (but I guess it's not in their remit) really needs to put out some easy to understand adverts on the commercial channels do increase education and understanding

I linked to Money Advice Service above because they are "the statutory body responsible for enhancing public understanding of financial matters", rather than the regulator - no idea if they use TV advertising but there was certainly plenty of prominent coverage of the introduction of auto-enrolment a few years ago, which was obviously intended to ensure that people don't rely solely on state pensions.

As well as all their other arrangements, the self-employed obviously have to do their own thing on pensions, so it is potentially a bit of a blind spot for them when they don't have an employer directing them towards a pension....
