You are aware that’d take several years with the court backlogs currently going on...?mobileron said:All in the Sherrifs0 -
Is it really that long to take a case to court? I'd expect a few months but not that long. Does anyone know the actual backlogs or have recent experience on this?mattyprice4004 said:

It's going to depend on what area you are in but there are people who initiated court action prior to first lockdown in March who haven't yet had their cases concluded. I guess if you are lucky and your area is running without too much of a delay you could be looking at 6 months to a year, if you are unlucky and your area is further behind you could be looking at well over a year.swajarbal said:

Any ideas how I find this out? I live in Notts (and the work was carried out here) but the trader is based in Derbys.Fosterdog said:

Contact the local court and ask them.0

The trader is based in a different county to where I live (see above). Which county court do I contact?Aylesbury_Duck said:Contact the local court and ask them.0 -
Why did you even employ a non-local contractor, who wanted £5K out of a total contract value of £2K, upfront? £1-£2K might have been a reasonable advance.
The court you contact is the one where you want the case heard=presumably Notts. No free lunch, and no free laptop

We live very near the county border, and he is based less than 5 miles away. He said the money was for materials and it all sounded plausible, but yes with hindsight it was very stupid.macman said:Why did you even employ a non-local contractor, who wanted £5K out of a total contract value of £2K, upfront? £1-£2K might have been a reasonable advance.
