PayPal payment reversed

I sold an item on 3rd November and duly posted it on the 4th, sent 2nd class signed for and I’ve tracked the item, it was delivered on the 9th, all’s well or so I thought.
i have now received an email from PayPal to say there has been a problem with the payment and they’ve refunded the buyer, I’ve tried numerous times to contact PayPal but all I get is an automated response on their message centre and via calling them.
Not sure what to do next, if anyone can help would be grateful.

Does it say for what reason? Assuming that the payment was showing as OK to send at the point you received it then  this was a chargeback and there would have been a case open - do you regularly monitor your paypal account, will you have noticed a case or read any email notification from paypal in order to deal with the case? You need to see what sort of case it was and just continue trying to get hold of paypal, it is possible to phone them, they are there you just have to manipulate the system to get direct phone number.

Payments either fail immediately on receipt , and that is literally within minutes of paypal getting it and will warn you not to post pending them investigating, or it goes to a chargeback, either INR/SNAD (which do not appear to be the case here) or for fraud on the card, a fraud case is the easiest to defend as it only needs proof of posting to the address shown as 'OK to send' to in paypal.

So what exactly does the payment show like in your paypal account?

  • Hi, I regularly use my PayPal account and the only email I’ve received is the one I stated, just states a potential problem has been found, only received it yesterday. Nothing in my PayPal account to say why

  • Looks like they have had fraudulent activity on their account or at least reported they have.
  • I agree, I’ve messaged the buyer to see if they can give me any info, meanwhile how do I get my money back?

That shouldn't make any difference to the OP though as they have proof of sending the item so provided it was an item that was eligible for seller protection and it was sent to the correct address, they would be covered and any loss for fraudulent activity wouldn't be on them.

If a dispute for an unauthorised purchase was opened, the OP would (or should) have been notified of this and given the chance to put forward their case.
  • Item was eligible for protection, address on eBay matched that of PayPal.
Case was only opened yesterday which was when I received the email, had no knowledge prior to this.
ive tried contacting PayPal via their message centre and calling them but only get automated response

Can you see an open case at all anywhere on PayPal? You should have 10 days to respond to any claim of fraudulent use of a card.

  • The only case is this one, it was opened on the 20th November, they found in favour of the buyer based on information they provided and it’s now closed.

I messaged Paypal yesterday and I got a reply back after a few hours

In the mean time I rang them and spoke to someone who sorted out my problem for me.
I cannot understand why you cannot get to speak to someone about this
