Paypal refusing to repay after hacking

Options
Hi. My EBay was hacked and fraudulent items amounting to about £250 paid with PayPal. EBay say PayPal have responsibilitity to return the funds - eBay have stopped transactions but most were digital - but PayPal are refusing. Can't get them to speak to each other as seems only USA eBay bothering to answer phone in the evening (our time). Please advise who is responsible here and what do I need to do to get this money returned?

Whats stopping you from reporting the transactions as fraudulent in Paypal? When my password was compromised and they bought a load of digital content on eBay (codes of games) it was no issue getting them all reversed just be reporting them as fraud
  • I've done all the above @paypal and they are refusing to take responsibility. Not sure how or why my experience is so different to yours. Think it was @facebook that was hacked and my @eBay was linked, in turn my PayPal. Each one blaming the other.
  • PayPal has 2FA, and my account has had this since August 2020. I do not store cards on the PayPal, but upload funds as required.

  • Also, use Authenticator and 2FA on the Facebook. Do that in settings.
  • How was it hacked?  Did someone guess your easy password? Did you click a phishing link?  Has someone gained access another way?  Did you have the same password on multi accounts (Facebook, Paypal etc?)

As above, if your own lack of security allowed someone to access the account then you won’t be getting anything back. Have you any idea how someone got access ?

Was the funds taken from your bank account attached to the paypal account?

If so how was it debited?
    Card or Direct Debit?

This - true hacking is extremely rare and a hacker wouldn’t be bothered for just £250
