Wren Kitchens

I purchased a Milano Infinity Kitchen from Wren and it was installed by my fitter in February 2020. I had several problems with them sending me different coloured plinths, a damaged washing machine, and missing parts, however, these were eventually rectified and the kitchen eventually finished despite the delays caused by them.  I have six 1000mm drawers in the kitchen - these are heavy with glass sides. I discovered that the recent scraping noise was due to the fact that the bottoms of these drawers were bowed despite not holding half of the capacity they were built for, i.e. capacity load 38kg.  It turned out that there should be 4 screws in the back of each drawer which attach to the bottom of the drawer, however, there were only two screws at either side of the drawer leaving the middle of the drawer without any support hence the bowing. I advised Wren that this was poor quality control on their part and asked them to provide me with six replacement drawers as the current ones are now defective.  They said they would only provide me with flat packed drawers and I would  have to employ a fitter/joiner to build these drawers and install them...they are too heavy and cumbersome for me to do alone. I've asked them to deliver them to their Paisley Store and for their fitter to collect them from there and fit in my kitchen but they refuse.  They will not guarantee that they will pay my fitter's costs and have refused to pay my wages for the time off work I will have to take for not only delivery of the drawers (whether flat packed or not) and to let the joiner/fitter in to build/install them.  They say that the kitchen was "supply only" which is correct in that I had my own fitter but I paid for fully built units not flat packed.  I think they are being extremely unreasonable and unfair expecting me to be out of pocket and put to this inconvenience when I paid thousands of pounds for a high-end kitchen from them. Can anybody help me with my rights here - surely they have to deliver six built drawers to me as it's their fault that the present ones are not fit for purpose?  Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks

  • No, I think they can provide a refund or a replacement, the replacement being what they provided in the first place - flat-packed drawers.  However, as I understand it, they are responsible for the extra costs you'll incur having the replacements fitted.  I doubt you're entitled to wage compensation.

Was that a supply problem or a fitting problem?

Their offer to supply replacement drawers as flat pack is reasonable ... they didn't originally supply assembled drawers, and their scope of supply was parts-only. That said, if Wren were responsible for the short supply, and this error was not obvious (didn't your fitter query this? I'd expect a kitchen fitter to know about such things), then they are also liable for all costs in remedying the fault. You may need to employ your fitter to install the replacements, and then send Wren a LBA for the cost - followed by an MCOL claim if required.
  • I have just had a granite worktop/ splashback delivered by wren. This came with a very distinctive blob of a mark in a prominent position when it is supposed to look like marble. Wren are arguing it is a natural variation and trying to rely on their standard terms and conditions. This is very disappointing when so much money has been spent buying the kitchen and paying to have it installed.  Do you have any recommendations for dealing with Wren?
