Eon boiler scheme add on costs have increased!

Hi, we were just assessed for a new boiler under Eon's grant scheme. We are eligible for the £395 grant (yay) BUT we need a water descaler (+£27) and, because the flue we need is a few cm longer than the one they provide, they want to charge us an additional £138 (one online costs £90). We were informed that the flue we need is still a standard flue, just a bit longer, but they changed the rules last week  so they can charge for all the additions. This takes us over budget. Any ideas on how we might argue this? Thanks.

You can’t. You need a longer flue than is manufactured. You’ve priced it and it’s £48 more than it costs you to buy.
So out of that £48 it has to be bought, picked up and fitted to your property.
    Seems fair really.

  • Thanks but it is a standard piece, not something that needs to be specially manufactured.

I’m aware of that. What I’m saying is they don’t manufacture a flue terminal long enough for what you need.
Or is it they supply a telescopic flue and you need a standard....they’re generally longer?

They aren’t options for flue terminals, they’re all the same length. Apart from what I’ve described above.
    What boiler is it?

Not relevant if it's standard or not the price is different.
Which someone has to pay for.
If you consider the extra as being excessive, then dont go ahead with it.

You are going to let an energy company fit a new boiler?  I do hope that the grant is large.
