Someone has set up Amazon account I my name

Since yesterday I have received 7 parcels from Amazon containing goods I didn't order. I checked my credit card yesterday and there were several pending transactions and some completed transactions for Amazon marketplace. The fraud department of the credit card is cancelling the transactions and has cancelled the card. Amazon say that an account has been set up using my details and credit card and they are investigating. I have an Amazon account I have had for several years with the same card but apparently the new account has a different email address. I have deleted my credit card from my Amazon account, although the card is now cancelled. I have no idea how someone got hold of all my details, especially since I hardly use my card.

I am feeling very anxious about all of this. I have changed my passwords absolutely everywhere I can think of and I have no card details retained on any sites as fast as I know, but I hate the idea that someone has all of my details. Also, I have no way of returning the goods. There is no paperwork with them, although Amazon did track the parcels from yesterday using a tracking number on the packaging. Is there anything else I should do? I am wondering what on earth is going on and what will happen next.

Why would someone go to the bother of setting up a fake account with your card only to have the goods sent to you and not them?

Its an odd one.  Possibly if one of the orders is with eg DPD, and can then be redirected after dispatch.  The others are a smoke screen to get the valuable package.
Clutching at straws I know, but...

Usually they try to intercept them before they get to the house.

You've done the right thing, changing all your passwords.  I think you just leave Amazon to conclude their investigation.

I also think they were setting things up for a big spend and I caught onto it very quickly. It makes no sense to me otherwise. It feels quite invasive having all this stuff turning up. My hall is literally full of boxes. I haven’t opened all of them but it’s things like tools and camera equipment, all costing between £20 and £50

It could be the brushing scam with the added bonus (for them) that they even get you to pay for the stuff - perhaps the database of addresses they bought also included some credit card details from a previous site hack.

Beware of fake couriers, claiming to be from Amazon, turning up to collect the goods.  That's one way to get hold of the goods after they have been sent to another address.
Ask Amazon what they want done with the parcels.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Would that be the genuine account that wasn't used to order the goods, or the new account that the OP doesn't have access to?
