Lucas Car Battery Faulty - eBay Seller Not Responding

Hello,
In June 2020 my car battery died, most likely because I didn't use the car very much during lockdown. I purchased a new battery from a reputatble looking eBay seller (Given the context of 2020, an online, contact free approach worked best for me at the time.) However, the new battery has since gone flat 3 times (about 1 per month).

I've had the car checked by a mechanic - nothing is draining the battery and I am using it regulary so it isn't because on inactivity.

We suspect the new battery is faulty. I've tried contacting the seller over eBay messenger, telephone and email but no replies! The battery was advertised with a 4 year warranty, but no paperwork came with the package. Its a Lucas branded battery, but when I called Lucas Electricals (which on google have the same branding) - they said they don't make batteries?

Any advice on ...
- What company makes lucas batteries - maybe I can contact them directly for the warranty?
- What steps I can take with the eBay seller, its too late to raise a claim/request a refund. They are not responding to emails, telephone calls or messages.

Many thanks!

  • Without any warranty paperwork you are going to struggle, unless you get some goodwill from the manufacturer.

Have a look through ebay to see if there are any routes to contact the seller via some form of dispute.  In the meantime, I'd buy a new battery and put the dodgy one aside.  No point keep having to deal with the hassle of charging/jump-starts/recovery and at this time of year, a weak battery is going to let you down more often than it has already.
  • Try contacting Ecobat:-
If that fails email ZF (who owns the Lucas brand):-

    Good luck

The common denominator here appears to be the car...  How experienced was this mechanic?
Your car will drain the battery each time it starts.  But is the car actually recharging it?

Lucas do make batteries, but your contract isn't with them, it's with the company you bought it from, so you need to deal with them.

Battery   >> Alternator >Fan Belt all could be at fault .
  • If it’s killed a battery already and now another, it’s likely to be the car.
My car wasn’t used much during lockdown, but the battery is still fine (and is rather old!)
