With the governments plan to bring forward the ban on new petrol/diesel car sales to 2030, so promoting electric vehicles I wonder how much longer E7 will be with us? I can see that even though NSHs work for us and are 'green' through our electric plan we'll be forced to get rid of them due to big increases in cost as people start charging their electric cars over night

I wouldn't worry about this any time soon. The power overnight is genuinely cheaper because there is a lot less demand, but nuclear and wind power continue producing anyway.Over time the demand will increase due to charging, but it will be 2035 before the sale of new cars must be electric only and even then there will still be thousands of petrol/diesel cars in regular use.I am sure the government will have figured out a way to tax the use of electricity for cars by then so I would still expect the use of electricity for cheaper overnight heating to remain a possibility.0

The switch to electric-only vehicles just isn't going to happen like ignorant politicians think it might. The infrastructure just isn't there and, even if it was, my guess is that the majority of homes can't support home charging (ie: you need an off road driveway).
All that will happen is a transition to the default vehicle offering being a non plug in hybrid (small battery, electric motor assist, regenerative braking - F1 style).
I doubt the smart meter rollout will finished by 2030, so anyone who thinks we'll be ready for an electric-only car revolution is seriously deluded.1 -
Whilst waiting for the OH alongside a display of self-charging hybrids in town, I casually asked the salesman 'what was the point of using the engine to charge the battery'. Straight-faced he replied 'Oh no, the wheels going round does that'.

The plan is to get the whole industry on a Half-hourly settlement (including domestic)
With everyone on HH settlement you'd likely see a lot more tariff similar to Agile - which in turn could easily phase out economy meters.0 -

If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
No, they're banning the sale of new ones from those dates. So the last ones will probably still be on the roads in 2040/2045. Apart from the Priuses (Prii?), which will probably still be going until 2060...if you can still find a petrol station to refuel at by then.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
