Most do self heal, but I'm one of the unlucky ones. I was sent to a small hospital for physio but only had two sessions as I was discharged, though the chief physio had only assessed me that morning. Everyone was surprised, as I was painfree , but unable to walk unassisted. The only nurse to say she knew was one I had a small difference with (I wasn't rude) the previous day.
You would have accepted any painkillers with what I experienced this time, yet two years ago the pain was quite bad but soon sorted. Perhaps, yours is a practice run.I still can't walk properly, having sudden pains or falling over as a leg gives way.

I've had a trapped nerve in my neck which felt like my head was too heavy for my body, with pain running down my arm. Even if my head was supported it hurt, the Dr.  Prescribed physio, which basically involved stretches, but what the physio did say was take the anti inflammatory regularly ,it's no good just taking when the pain is bad, which I was doing as I don't like to take any meds.
She said this reduces the inflammation which is what is putting pressure on the nerve.  After the pain went she said when you feel the slightest twinge of it recurring,  take anti inflammatory straight away, and it should stop it.
Might not work for everyone but made sense and worked in my case.
