British gas - no more annual statements

Hi all :)
I'm coming to the end of my current tariff, I've just contacted British gas asking for my annual statement so I can see my usage in kWh so I can compare and switch if necessary. I spoke to an online adviser who told me that they have stopped annual statements according to ofgems guidance. When I asked why he could not give a reason.  He did tell me my usuage in kWh.But only because I asked for it.
So if you don't ask you won't know?!

Surely this is something we absolutely MUST have. Wether it's online or in the post.  we should know what we are using and spending at all times . I don't understand how ofgem would encourage them to be stopped?

Any opinions or advice... Perhaps I've mis-understood?
Thankyou :)
Liz.

Of course you'll know your usage - you've been giving monthly readings and can work it out for yourself.... can't you?

Bib,still astonished at the amount people that dont do this tbh.
  • Your annual usage should still be given to you when they write to you around 49 days before your contract ends. The annual statement was something different and didn't necessarily coincide with the end date of your tariff. I'm sure energy suppliers also have to include the information on every bill/statement.

If you log onto your British Gas online account you can see your annual usage. Why would you need a separate statement to tell you?
