Going back on Furlough

Options
I have a part time job in a pub so I was furloughed from April originally. I hadn’t been working many hours prior to this so the payment was quite low.

In July when the pub reopened I went back to work and was working about 3 times as many hours. Obviously I wasn’t paid any furlough.

Now I am back on furlough but the payment is based on the original one from April. Is this correct?

  • No. Reference pay point is the end of October.
  • Thank you for that. Could you possibly point me to where I might find this officially so that I can show my employer?

"For all other employees, the reference period is the last pay period ending on or before 30 October 2020; this will only apply for periods starting after 1 November 2020."

EDIT - hmm, I dont know now given you have been furloughed before.
  • Yes I think that’s the issue.  Being furloughed previously.

The guidance states that if you were furloughed before 10 June under the original furlough scheme, and are still with the same employer, your reference salary is based on the method used for that furlough. If you were a fixed rate employee, it is based on your pay for the last period ending before 20 March 2020. If you weren't, it is based on the higher of your pay for the equivalent pay period in the previous year, and your average pay in 2019/20 up to the date you were first furloughed or 5 April, whichever is earlier. This is in the link posted by Bradders.

Your employer can recover 80% of your reference salary under CJRS. That is not what they have to pay you (although it is the minimum they have to pay you in order to claim under CJRS). What you are actually due while on furlough depends on your contract of employment, as amended by any furlough agreement.
