At local auction you'll pick upa frifge freezer for £10-15. Even if it dies after 6 months, so what?
    eg

It might be £10-15, but then it's another £30-50 to get a man with van to move it. And, are the ones in the auction actually working? If not, it's another 15 quid for the council to come and take it away.

And if it catches fire and burns down your hole house that's another £150,000 at least.
That’s true. My point is simply that auction  items are usually sold as seen, plus transport is an issue. The low prices reflect that.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

My solicitor made it clear they really didn't want to get into negotiations over "chattels". Not that there was any problem.
Their time would cost more than the value of the items.

Can you check whether they mean they are no longer ‘included’ in the price of the sale? As in, we’re not taking them with us but we want x amount for them.
  • Offer them £2000 for the items to be paid on completion. Don;t pay it.

OP, it's reasonable to ask your solicitor to raise it - as it was on the forms and you've exchanged, it is technically a breach of contract on their part.

That said, it's a relatively low-cost item and probably not worth getting into a big fight over. How much would it be worth second hand?

Last time I moved, the oven died a few days before moving date. I got my repair guy our who basically said that it would cost more to repair than it was worth (and getting the parts would take long enough that it would be after the completion date)  and that buying a similar qualify oven second hand would be about £50 on ebay

I explained the situation and offered the buyers £50 and everyone was happy. Maybe ask for something similar, based on what you think a realistic second hand price would be?

I would not waste the solicitor/conveyancer's time with this.

That isn't going to achieve anything. Your conveyancer will just tell the seller's conveyancer about the fridge. The other side's conveyancer will need to ask their client. Their client may give a stroppy response. The parties will then be in deadlock, and the conveyancers will be unable to proceed without confirmation of an agreed position. Giant waste of time for all involved.

If you want the fridge left, ask the EA about it.

Hope they don't remove all the lightbulbs on their way out. Our first seller did!

our vendors' washing machine broke between exchange and completion, had the cheek to ask us to get a new one in the meantime, since I am moving anyways. I umed and ahhed until I completed and bought a new one which only I would use, not someone else putting their dirty shoes in the washing machine making it smell and nasty
