Hi Thanks for replies. Our Party insurance did not have any excess as we checked before taking it out and would have paid to cover any excess if there was any. It is not the money so much as the principle, cos if we had paid the full amount we'd have been out of pocket by a grand and we couldn't rearrange, as not a Wedding and for other reasons stated in original post.
All we wanted to know was had anyone else been successful with their insurance co. if their UK caterer/hotel etc didn't refund ?
Lots have people have lost out, but real point is why pay for insurance if they appear to have a get out clause.
According to Insurance Companies- Insurance is taken out to cover eventualities that are not known at the time of purchase.

Another option might be a chargeback? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
