Blocking up fire place

I want to replace the dated fireplace for a more modern wall hung electric fire. The current electric fire is set into the old fire place, and I'm wondering if I need to brick up the fire place, or if batons and plasterboard will be sufficient.
The chimney is to be fitted with a breathable cap and I'm planning on fitting an air brick to the side of the chimney breast.

A small bit of studwork & plasterboard will be fine. Put some insulation behind the PB (75mm of Celotex/Kingspan) to prevent the wall being cold and reduce the risk of damp/condensation. For a small hole such as a fireplace, it isn't worth buying a full sheet of insulation, so worth ringing around builders merchants to see if they have any damaged sheets going cheap (or gumtree/freecycle/ebay).
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
